National key R&D project “Pollutant Ultra-Low Emission Technology” pilot test seminar was held at Taishan Group. Taishan Group undertook the establishment and testing of a pilot test platform for the entire project. The test system was in the Biomass Boiler Manufacturers’ steam boiler room, including a 2t/h vertical pulverized coal red boiler, upgrading coal /
biomass boiler, coupled electric-bag composite dust collector, semi-dry desulfurization and denitri cation device. The research group agreed to establish a collaboratory between Tsinghua University and Taishan Group at the coal red steam boiler room.

This project is the first national key R&D project that Biomass Boiler Manufacturers Taishan Group ever participated in. Certainly, this project will play an important role in improving the influence and competitiveness of Taishan Boiler.

Biomass Steam Boilers CE Certification Process

Biomass Steam Boilers CE Certification Process

 

1.1 Pre-Certification

Biomass Steam Boilers CE certication process is quite complicated, below are a few
key points. Thus everyone may have a preliminary understanding of the certification
process.
The company shall firstly select a suitable authorized body (Noti ed Body) and entrust
them to carry on the certification over biomass steam boilers. Specific certification mode is determined by the two parties through consultation.

1.2 Data to be Submitted for Certification

After signing the contract, NB will request the manufacturer to submit data for
conformation, including basic data of manufacturer, basic data of the biomass steam
boilers, list of major parts, main mechanical and electrical drawings, related calculation book, welder and NDE personnel quali cation, major pressure part material certificate, risk assessment analysis report, description of safety protection device in mechanical system, product self-declaration (conformity statement), etc. After conformation of these data, NB will perform relevant on-site inspection, including personnel, equipment, steam boiler performance test, etc. They will issue relevant certi cates after conforming compliance with the requirement of each directive.

1.3 Design Standard for Certified biomass steam boilers

As mentioned earlier, PED is not a mandatory technical standard, it only stipulates basic safety requirements for the biomass boiler. The manufacturer can select a design and manufacture standard according to the actual situation. For export steam boiler, domestic manufacturers generally choose ASME code for design and manufacture, since it is relatively close to the requirements of foreign countries. Some users need biomass steam boiler with ASME stamp, so manufacturer will choose ASME code as the basis for design.

1.4 Material Requirements for Certified biomass steam boilers

No material from non-EU countries (including ASME materials) has yet been approved in
Europe or produced in accordance with European standard. Hence in practice, the
material for pressure part is selected via material evaluation and Particular Material
Appraisal
by NB.

1.5 Electrical Directives

For small steam boiler, the motor of water pump, fan and oil pump shall have CE
certificate
. Other electrical parts (such as solenoid valve, transformer, etc.) whose
service voltage is within the directive (AC 50-1000V, DC 75-1500V) also need CE
certificate.
In addition, LVD specifically requires an emergency stop button on the control panel.
The emergency stop button shall be able to cut o the power supply at the fastest
speed.

1.6 MD Directives

European Union’s requirements for the machinery safety is equally stringent. All risk-prone areas shall have warning label, the pipeline shall indicate the fluid type and direction. NB inspectors will timely put forward during certification, and manufacturers shall rectify according to the provisions.

1.7 Final CE Certification Result

After all the design, manufacturing, test, compliance review are quali ed, CE certification
of small biomass boiler is over. The biomass steam boilers meeting EU export condition
shall have EMC certificate, MD certificate, B certificate, F certificate. The nameplate shall have PED nameplate and MD nameplate, and PED nameplate shall have CE mark with NB code.

Bagasse Boiler Customer from Thailand Visited Taishan Group

Bagasse boiler is a kind of biomass boiler burning bagasse from sugarcane. Bagasse is the brous material remaining after the sugar juice has been crushed and squeezed from the sugarcane. A typical application for biomass power generation is utilization of the bagasse in sugar mill. By virtue of steam turbine and generator, the steam from the bagasse boiler can produce electricity for in-house use, and the exhaust steam can be used as process heat for sugar processing.

In the early of June 2019, KTIS Group from Thailand came to Taishan Group for visiting. The focus is on 2*38MW bagasse boiler power plant project in CHABA. The whole power plant includes two sets 200t/h CFB boilers, two sets 38MW extraction condensing steam turbines and two sets 38MW water-cooled air-cooled three-phase synchronous generators. The biomass boiler output steam parameter is 200ton/h, 10.5 MPa,  540℃, and steam turbine inlet steam parameter is 200ton/h, 10.3 MPa, 535℃.

The manufacturing process of sugar from sugarcane is a process that yields various by-products. KTIS Group has invested in a factory producing paper pulp from bagasse, ethanol from molasses, and a biomass power plant using bagasse from sugar mills as a raw material. In addition, the business has been designed to add value to various raw materials in the business networks without depending on external sources, which results in business stability and low risk in raw material shortage.

Moreover, KTIS Group also has Kaset Thai factory with a maximum capacity of approximately 50,000 tons of sugarcane per day, which is considered to be the sugar mill with the world’s largest production capacity.
